Sentida - Dementia - Lo Lo Bed

The Sentida bed is specifically designed for Alzheimer’s care and Dementia care patients. The sleeping surface is divided into 4 sections, to provide optimal support to the Head/ /torso area, Hips, Upper thigh and Lower Leg.

This set up provides a more physiologically correct support to promote better lung function when in the seated position. This means that the risk of pneumonia is greatly reduced. As we all know pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death amongst the elderly and infirm.

Added to this is the unique patented dual retraction technology, which prevents skin shearing and pressure sores from developing when adjusting the sleeping surface from flat to upright. This has been a major problem for some manufacturers, however, by developing this technology, Wi-Bo have been able to dramatically reduce the pressure points that accumulate overtime and can have a negative effect of the skin tissue leading to pressure sores and bed ulcers. We have one of the best rated sleeping surfaces on the market and have the pressure map data to back it up.

The Sentida beds are entrapment complaint with the 2012 legislation for nursing home beds. There are 2 options available. Continuous/ Traditional side guards, or 4-Split side guards.  Depending on what side of the bed a person uses, each of the 4-split side guards can be set-up to allow the dementia patient to orientate themselves during the night sleep.  Basically 3 of the 4 side guards will be locked into position while the 4th is left down so one leg is free to touch the ground when the bed is in the lo-lo position. Another benefit of the 3 up 1 down set-up, is that it allows active residents an easy egress for toilet breaks during the night, instead of jumping over the side guards and risking a fall. The 3 up 1 down protects the upper torso/ Head and hips, while leaving the residents to exit the bed.

Three levels of safety are built into the Sentida hand control. 1) Plug and Play 2) Access/lock controls 3) Select and Do functions.

  1. Plug and Play, For residents who have the where withal to use the handset can do so, for those that don’t it can be removed.
  2. The handset is divided between patient controls and nurse controls. These can be locked, they can be set to patient only, or all functions, by means of a key on the rear of the handset.  Patients can adjust back rest, knee break and height. The nurse has access to the same and also has a button function that sets the bed up as a) 30 degree semi fowler position, for preparation for sleep, or for applying dressing on lower legs, and also a button function  b) the chair position, which is a function that turns the bed from horizontal to chair in one movement. This function is ideal for waking up residents in the morning and helping them get ready to toilet.
  3. Some patients fall asleep while holding the handset. To prevent them from accidentally changing the height of the bed from lo-lo to 90cm, the resident must consciously select a function and then press the up key. There is a time delay, which cancels the request if the action isn’t completed quickly enough. So there is no risk of a resident going to sleep and waking in the middle of the night only to find the bed in its highest position.

By having 3 separate levels of safety built into the handset, 4 split side guards, and patented Dual retraction technology we have eliminated the majority of risks associated with Dementia patients.
The Sentida is electrically adjustable from 25cm to 90cm, which makes it the perfect bed for nursing care and fall injury prevention.
